4 აგვისტოს ლაშა ტალახაძემ ტოკიოს ოლიმპიური თამაშები მოიგო და პირველი სპორტსმენი გახდა დამოუკიდებელი საქართველოს ისტორიაში, რომელმაც ქვეყანას ოლიმპიურ თამაშებზე ოქროს მედალი ორჯერ მოუპოვა.
ლაშა ტალახაძემ ტოკიოში ოლიმპიური და მსოფლიო რეკორდები დაამყარა ატაცში (223), აკვრასა (265) და ორჭიდის ჯამში (488).
27 წლის ძალოსანი ოლიმპიური თამაშების მოგებისათვის, სახელმწიფოსაგან 1 000 000 ლარს მიიღებს. ასევე, ლაშას, სახელმწიფოსაგან ორჭიდში დამყარებული ოლიმპიური რეკორდისათვის 300 000 ლარი, ხოლო მსოფლიო რეკორდისათვის 200 000 ლარი გადაეცემა. საერთო ჯამში, მან ტოკიოს ოლიმპიურ თამაშებზე გამოსვლით 1 500 000 ლარი გამოიმუშავა.
